Outer Banks Beach Report: 12.16.13 - Nothing But Blue Skies
Good afternoon this is Brandon from Seaside Vacations and I'd like to welcome you to another Outer Banks beach report. It's Monday, December 16th and it's a marvelous day to be in Northeastern North Carolina.
I took the picture above at 9:00 am this morning in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina around milepost 5 at a public beach access.
It's a bit chilly this morning/afternoon on the Outer Banks, but it's pretty nice out considering its the middle of December. While a large portion of the nation got hammer with snow over the weekend, we dealt with some minor wind and rain (much better than snow).
Today's high temperature is 43 degrees and there isn't a cloud in the sky this morning. Light wind from the NNW at 6 mph throughout the day with plenty of sunshine. You may want to bring a jacket if you're taking a walk on the beach today, but I'm not going to complain about low-40s and no snow in December.
Many local surfers on the Outer Banks braved the chilly Atlantic Ocean water temperatures this weekend and enjoyed great surf last weekend. Unfortunately, the great waves have deteriorated and surf this morning is pretty small and maybe knee high at best.
You might have some minor luck if you paddle out on a longboard, but nothing too great going on surf wise today. Ocean water temperatures are around 51 degrees day.
There isn't much fishing going on today on the Outer Banks. A few boats went out of Oregon Inlet this weekend, caught a few Bass and Tilefish. The overall nice weather makes for a great day for surf or pier fishing on the OBX today.
Thanks for reading and we hope to see you soon.... have fun!
