Wright Memorial Bridge to Outer Banks Getting Revamp
If you are headed to the Outer Banks anytime in the next nine months then you might want to read closely.
The Wright Memorial Bridge that connects the North Carolina mainland to Kitty Hawk will be undergoing a $6.3 million dollar upgrade starting next month.
The construction will close the lanes headed out of Kitty Hawk and traffic will be directed to the eastbound bridge. This means there will be one lane going each way instead of two.

The project could begin as early as Sept. 15th
and is scheduled to conclude by May of 2014, right before the summer tourist season.
Latex-modified concrete will be used on the bridge to make for a smoother ride into the Outer Banks. Yay! The downside of the modified concrete is that it can only be used when air temperatures are between 50 and 85 degrees and wind speeds are no more than 10 miles per hour.
