2014 January Events on the Outer Banks of North Carolina
Although January is considered the "off-season" on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, there are still some great events happening during the first month of 2014.
Included in the list, is the most important event for soon-to-be brides who are planning a dream wedding on the OBX.
The Outer Banks Wedding Expo draws in thousands of out-of-town visitors each year and will be bigger and better than ever in 2014. Apart from the Wedding Expo, there are some smaller events sprinkled throughout the month listed below.
2014 Outer Banks Running Club’s Frostbite 5k Membership Run
January 11th, 2014 @ 9:00 am
This event is the annual membership event for the Outer Banks Running Club and by registering for this race, you also receive Club Membership for 2014.
Light refreshments will be provided for registered participants and prizes will be awarded to first place adult male and female runners, adult male and female walkers, and first place youth male and female runners.

Elvis Birthday Bash Tribute Show
January 11th, 2014 @ 7:30 pm
Celebrate "The King's" birthday at the premier live entertainment venue on the OBX. The great Jim Smith and The Memories Band will be playing hit Elvis songs from different periods of the legends career.
If you can't make it to Las Vegas this year, this one-night only show is a can't miss event if you're a fan of Elvis.

Outer Banks Wedding Weekend and Expo
January 18th - 19th, 2014
The OBX Wedding Weekend and Expo is the biggest event on the Outer Banks for brides-to-be to plan their dream wedding at the beach.
Held at First Flight High School in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, soon-to-be brides can explore everything the Outer Banks has to offer for your dream destination wedding. Attendees can learn more about wedding: venues, restaurants, caterers, rental items, and local photographers.
This two-day bash features open house style events at some of the area’s best venues for weddings, receptions, and catering, as well as a day-long expo held at FFHS. Pre-registration and ticket purchases will be available online until 8:00 am on January 18th for $20.00 per ticket. After 8:00 am on January 18th, tickets may be purchased at the Expo show sites for $25.00 per ticket.

Winter Wildlife Education Series: Sink, Sank, Sunk – “Sinking of the USS Monitor”
January 21st 2014 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Lauren Heesemann, Research Coordinator for NOAA’s Monitor National Marine Sanctuary presents the “Sinking of the USS Monitor.” The event will be held at the Outer Banks Wildlife Center for Education in Corolla, North Carolina.
Lauren has a Master’s degree in Human Dimensions and Natural Resources and the program draws on her education and experience. She works towards the preservation and conservation of natural and historical resources through research, education and outreach.

36th Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show
January 25, 2014 - February 22, 2014
Including a wide-array of local fine art ranging from conceptual to realistic, the 36th
Annual Frank Stick Memorial Art Show will feature: sculptures, paintings, drawings, and pottery and mixed media pieces.
On display at the Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery in Nags Head, this is the longest running visual art exhibition in Dare County. Cash awards will be given to top art show pieces. Art drop of days will be on January 21st
at Glenn Eure’s Ghost Fleet Gallery. There will be an opening reception on January 25th
from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Open for a full month, the art show is a collection of spellbinding works that pays homage to the natural landscape - a collection that Stick himself would most certainly be proud of. This is a free event!
