What is the Weather on the Outer Banks?

Even though the beach is an idealistic “summer” destination, the temperate weather on the Outer Banks makes it an enjoyable place to visit year-round. Although the weather varies by season, visitors can generally expect bright, sunny days and gentle ocean breezes with an average of around 81 degrees from April to September and 59 degrees from October to March.

What is the Best Time to Visit the Outer Banks?

The best time to visit the Outer Banks is either between March and May or September and November. During both periods, there are fewer crowds, and the rates to stay in a beautiful rental are much lower than they are at peak season. Additionally, daytime temperatures during the day still climb to 65 to 80 degrees, which is ideal for spending a fun-filled day at the beach. Nighttime temperatures, on the other hand, drop between 40 and 50 degrees – perfect for quiet and relaxing evening strolls. Do keep in mind that some attractions and restaurants are closed during off-season months, but there is still plenty to do and see in the OBX!
