2019 Summer Slam Kayak Fishing Tournament

The Outer Banks offers some of the best fishing spots in the country. With miles of coastline for shore fishing, a handful of great fishing piers and the opportunity take watercraft out into the Atlantic or one of the many sounds and surrounding canals, a vacation in the Outer Banks is an angler’s dream come true. Whether you’re an amateur kayak fisherman or a seasoned professional, there’s a good chance you enjoy a little competition... and while fishing is relaxing on many levels, there’s nothing like reeling in catch that earns you bragging rights.

If you think you have the skills to stand out among the rest, you’ll love the 2019 Summer Slam Kayak Fishing Tournament. The Summer Slam takes place all across the Outer Banks and is a catch-and-release tournament where photos of the biggest fish are submitted as entries. To participate, photos must be submitted by a 5PM cut-off and show the fish length from upper lip to end of tail. A Kitty Hawk Surf Co. badge must also be included in the photo (participants receive this badge at the Captain’s Meeting the evening before the tournament). The competition begins at first light Saturday morning and all fish must be caught from your watercraft.

Tournament species include flounder, speckled trout and red drum. To register, visit Kitty Hawk Kites online or call the Kitty Hawk Kites reservation line. You can also stop by the Kitty Hawk Surf Co. in Nags Head at 3925 S. Croatan Hwy. Nags Head, NC 27959.

While 2019 prizes have not yet been announced, last year’s fall tournament (October 6, 2018) yielded great prizes like fishing accessories, apparel, sports gear, kayak accessories, and a grand prize of a 2018 Hobie Outback Camo Edition kayak for the slam tournament winner. Fall entry fees were donated to Hurricane Florence Relief Efforts.
