Spring is a great time to schedule your next Outer Banks vacation. On top of all of the great benefits of springtime on the OBX (like cheaper rental prices and great weather), there are also a host of fun activities to try that aren't available in the summer! Whether you’re looking for an event that is family friendly, perfect for your four-legged pal, or all about the local food, there’s surely an event you’ll enjoy. Here’s a look at upcoming Spring 2020 OBX Events*:

March 2020 Events on the Outer Banks
March 1, 8, 15, and 22: Sunday Brunch at the Outer Banks Brewing Station from 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Come out every Sunday in March for a delicious brunch! Menu items include Classic Eggs Benedict, Chorizo Hash, Biscuits & Gravy, and more! View menu.
March 1: 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off at Stripers Bar & Grill from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Come out to Stripers Bar & Grille in Manteo for their 7th annual chili cookoff benefiting Shriner Hospitals. See whose chili is the best while enjoying live music by Jonny Waters. Tickets sold at the door for $20, $15 for kids 7-14 and free for kids 6 and under. Learn more.
March 7 – March 8: Outer Banks Wedding Weekend & Expo at First Flight High School from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. This self-guided event is the perfect one-stop shop for anyone with a wedding coming up! Visit with different wedding venues, restaurants, coordinators, bakers, caterers, photographers, equipment rental providers, florists, salons & more to help you plan out your Outer Banks dream wedding. Many samples & perks available. VIP Tickets are $40 and General Admission tickets are $20. Plus, one lucky winner will receive a $1,000 voucher good toward any vendor on site. Learn more.
March 14: St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Beer Mile in Kill Devil Hills at 2:00 PM. Hosted by the Outer Banks Brewing Station, this unique 1-mile Leprechaun-themed race consists of costumes and fun as runners celebrate with a 10oz beer after the end of each quarter-mile stretch. Prizes and a backyard party for participants. Registration is $35. Learn more.
March 26 – 29: OBX Taste of the Beach. Come out to one of the Top 10 Wine & Seafood Festivals in the US for an extended weekend of the best food the OBX has to offer. From BBQ showdowns and tapas crawls to wine tasting and culinary instruction, there are several individual events scattered throughout the OBX so select as many as you want to attend! April 2020 Events on the Outer Banks
April 1 – April 30: Butterfly Festival at The Elizabethan Gardens. Opening April 1st is the month-long butterfly-themed celebration with games and activities for kids, a butterfly house for viewing, and a butterfly release. Some events included with regular admission but some workshops require advanced registration. Learn more.
April 10 – April 11: Fly Into Spring and Easter Eggstravaganza at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing at 10:00 AM. This annual event is hosted by Kitty Hawk Kites to celebrate National Kite Month. Kids will enjoy an Easter egg hunt, get their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, and marvel at huge 30’ to 100’ kites flying over Jockey’s Ridge. Learn more.
April 11: Easter Eggstravaganza at The Elizabethan Gardens from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Bring your kids out to Manteo for the largest egg scavenger hunt on the beach! There will be thousands of eggs to find along with contests, music, dancing, crafts, an egg roll race, and egg spoon races! Plus, enjoy a visit from Sir Walter “Peter” Wabbit, prizes, gift certificates and a bounce house! Learn more.
April 18: WOOFstock 2020 at The Elizabethan Gardens from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. This is the perfect event for your kids and furkids! For each adult ticket purchased to the Gardens, one child and one dog get in free! Come support the OBX SPCA and enjoy a silent auction, exhibits, music, and concessions (for humans and canines!) April 25 – 26: Native Journeys Festival at the Frisco Native American Museum from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Celebrate the heritage of North Carolina and enjoy dancing, drumming, hands-on-learning, and more. Food and other vendors will be on site. Ticket prices vary. Learn more.
April 26: 4th Annual OBX Taco Cookoff at Ortega’z Southwestern Grill & Wine Bar from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM. Local restaurants will be competing for the title of “best taco” and guests get to sample each one! Enjoy live music, drinks, raffles and kids activities. Tickets are $25 and kids under 10 get in free. Proceeds help kids attend summer camp at Jennette’s Pier. Learn more.
May 2020 Events on the Outer Banks
May 2: Kentucky Derby Party 2020 at The Elizabethan Gardens from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM. This outdoor event in Manteo celebrates the Kentucky Derby and features a silent auction, fashionable hat auction, derby hat contest, prizes, food, bourbon, and a live stream of the derby on multiple screens. Proceeds benefit The Elizabethan Gardens and the Dare Education Foundation. Ticket prices vary. Learn more.
May 8: KidsFest 2020 at Roanoke Island Festival Park from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. This free event is a perfect outing for kids ages 5 and under. Enjoy face painting, bubbles, ice cream, snowballs, arts, crafts, music, and more! Learn more.
May 14 – May 18: 48th Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular and Air Show at Jockey’s Ridge. Spectators are admitted for free to this fun event where you can witness some awesome competitive flying. Event schedule varies by day. See the full schedule.
May 16 – May 17: 9th Annual Mustang Spring Jam at Mike Dianna’s Grill Room in Corolla. Visitors will enjoy two full days of rock, soul, funk, blues, and jazz music performed by dozens of regional bands and a fun grilled cheese cook-off! Ticket prices vary. Learn more.
May 23 – May 24: 2020 Kiteboarding Season Kickoff at Waves Village Watersports Resort. If you love kiteboarding, you don’t want to miss this awesome free event with competitions, new gear demonstrations, tech talks, and specialty instruction by the pros. Learn more.
