From haunted trails to haunted houses - there is something for everyone in search of a good scare on the OBX.  Whether you're staying in an Outer Banks vacation rental home or you're a year-round resident of the area, there are plenty of great Halloween activities during the month of October.

  1. PsychopathEasily the scariest event on this top 4 list, Psychopath is a can't miss activity for any horror junkie on the Outer Banks. Psychopath is located near the mysterious Lost Colony on Roanoke Island.

    Over 400 years ago, 117 men, women and children mysteriously vanished from Roanoke Island without a trace. What will happen during your frightening tour through the mysterious woods?

    Are you prepared for what America's most mysterious island has in store for you?The walking haunted trail is open every Friday and Saturday night from October 11 - 26. The first tour starts just after it gets too dark to see what lies hidden within the haunted woods and the last tour of the night will begin no later than 11 p.m. This is a rain or shine event and a significant portion of the tour will be in the haunted indoor area.

    Don't worry if you get too scared, you can always holler "safety" to be escorted out.
     
  2. The DarknessOne of the newest and scariest haunted attractions on the Outer Banks, The Darkness is located on the other side of Roanoke Island. The haunted trail is full of horrific ghouls and goblins that pop out when you least expect it.Wander through the haunted trail open Thursday through Saturday in October from dusk until 11 pm.

    You won't want to experience this alone so bring along your bravest friend of family member! The Darkness is headquartered at 1102 ER Daniels Road in Wanchese, NC and tickets are $13.
     
  3. Reel Terror Haunted House Presented by the Outer Banks Jubilee, The Reel Terror Haunted House Attraction is located in the haunted aisles of the old Kitty Hawk Movie Cinema.

    Now called the Outer Banks Jubilee Theater, OBX Haunt is one of the scariest Halloween attractions on the Outer Banks.Tickets are available online, via phone at 252.261.7464 or before the show.  The haunted theatre attraction is open October 21 - 31 from 7 pm till 11 pm.

Draped in Black - Evening Lantern Tours Take a night-time journey into the home of a grieving widow, explore the peculiar ways Victorian families mourned the loss of a loved one and take a lantern-lite tour through a 1800s graveyard, explore the home of a grieving widow and learn about the peculiar ways

    Victorian families mourned the loss of a loved one.Hear stories of the farm's past residents and join the costumed interpreters on a night-time journey around Island Farms. Draped in Black takes place on Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th from 7:30 pm till 9:00 pm. The tours last approximately 15 to 20 minutes and tickets are $8 each for anyone 6+ years old.
