Once a well-kept secret amongst beach aficionados, Corolla (pronounced kuh-RAH-luh), is a flourishing vacation destination that offers a plethora of shopping and outdoor activities. Along with its fantastic beaches, the area is also home to a herd of over 100 wild horses and several national historic sites, such as the Whalehead Club and Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Although the sleepy village didnt begin to awaken until the mid-1980s, Corolla has since become an affluent and thriving area. If youre in the Corolla area, youve got to explore the shipwreck near Whalehead that is believed to be part of a 19th century ship called the Metropolis. The shipwreck can be found near the Albacore Street beach access. Its definitely worth the trip!
