[WATCH] NC 12 - Kitty Hawk washout during Hurricane Joaquin

Hurricane Joaquin is now out to sea Northeast of us.  The Outer Banks did experience some flooding and overwash in areas.  A lot of this was caused from a weather system that hit the area well before Joaquin.
One of the areas affected by the storms was N.C. 12 at milepost 4 in Kitty Hawk, by the Black Pelican restaurant.  The area had been reinforced with sandbags earlier this year, but was breached by waves during the recent weather.

This video taken by Ben Sproul from Pivot Visuals and the social media photos below show what happened to the area.  This part of NC 12 remains closed until repairs can be made.
