Community Description
Kill Devil Hills, home of the Wright Brothers Memorial has easily-accessed beaches with parking, fishing, crabbing, mini golf, restaurants, night life, fine dining, shopping and movies.

The oldest township in the Outer Banks, Kill Devil Hills was established in 1952. High sand dunes that stretched from the Albemarle Sound to the Atlantic Ocean once dotted the landscape. On the top of one of those dunes in 1903, the Wright Brothers made history when they achieved the first successful airplane flight. The spot is now home to the Wright Brothers Memorial.

Wright Brothers Memorial
Full-scale reproductions of the 1902 glider and the 1903 flying machine are on display in the Wright Brothers Visitor Center. Museum, exhibits, movies and educational programs can be found in the Centennial Pavilion.
Visitors can stand in the spot where the first flights were made and climb Big Kill Devil Hill for a fabulous view of both the Sound and the Ocean.
Hours of Operation: (Summer): 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM; (September – May) : 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Closed: Christmas
Fees: $4 for adults 16 years of age and older
