You are here

If you're looking for a quiet town situated between Hatteras and Buxton, Frisco certainly fits the bill. The area is primarily residential and offers some year-round residential homes as well as many seasonal rentals. In 2010, there were 200 people that were permanent residents of the town. The town is known, like the other areas on Hatteras Island, for watersports like kiteboarding and surfing, as well as kayaking and fishing. There are also plenty of beautiful natural wooded and beachy areas as well as long stretches of undeveloped sand. When you're looking for a vacation spot that promises less distraction and more quality time together on the sand, you'll find that Frisco marks off all of those requirements.

History of Frisco, NC

Frisco was originally named "Trent" by the English settlers who arrived in the area and there were 3 large sand hills as well as a life-saving station in the area in 1879. When the post office was established in Trent in 1898, the town was renamed Frisco, though there's no concerete evidence as to why they changed the name. Local legend suggests that the postalmaster who lived in the area wanted to name the area fter San Francisco, shortening the name to Frisco. Prior to English colonization, this area was home to a large and thriving indigenous population. In fact, archeologists believe that there were potentially upwards of 5,000 people living in and around Frisco before the English ever arrived on this coast.
