The town of Duck with its waterfront dining and pristine beaches – some of the best for shell collecting – is a top notch vacation spot. The origin of the town name, like so many Outer Banks villages, can be traced back through history. For 200 years, waterfowl hunters journeyed to this northern Outer Banks location in search of the many migratory birds that flocked to the area, particularly ducks, which gave the town its name. The Town of Duck is divided into several neighborhoods. The town is easy to navigate and most of Duck can be explored almost entirely on foot. Start with the 6-mile Duck Trail, which runs the length of the town, or check out the mile-long boardwalk, which hugs the Currituck Sound and connects Duck Town Park to the shops within the quaint downtown area.
