Once a well-kept secret among beach aficionados, Corolla (pronounced kuh-RAH-luh), is a flourishing vacation destination that offers a plethora of shopping and outdoor activities. Along with its fantastic beaches, the area is also home to a well-known herd of wild horses and several national historic sites, such as the Whalehead Club and Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Although the sleepy village didnt begin to awaken until the mid-1980s, Corolla has since become an affluent and thriving area. If you're in the Corolla area, you've got to explore the shipwreck near Whalehead that is believed to be part of a 19th century ship called the Metropolis. The shipwreck can be found near the Albacore Street beach access. Its definitely worth the trip!
