Event: Day at the Docks: A Community Heritage Celebration
When: September 19-20, 2025
Location: Hatteras Village waterfront
About: Fun annual celebration commemorating the local waterfolk. This event is held each year in the middle of September on the docks in and around Hatteras Village. This vibrant event began following Hurricane Isabel in 2003 and celebrates the island's unique heritage and enduring maritime traditions each year.
September 19:
6:30 PM: Seafood Under the Stars Dinner
$60 no wine | $80 with wine
Hatteras Civic Center, Hatteras Village
Come enjoy dishes with optional wine pairings showcasing locally sourced seafood. Seating is available inside or outside, weather dependent! Pre-registration required.
September 20:
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM: DATD Education Tent Exhibitions
Learn about the local fishing industry and maritime culture with exhibits and demonstrations by local organizations!
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM: DATD Artist Village
Come experience the gorgeous artwork by talented local artists! Find your new favorite piece and celebrate the local art scene.
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM: Community Organization Area
Engage with local community organizations, support the work that they're doing on the island, and find out more about how you can get involved in the community.
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM: Chowder Cook-Off
$10 Tasting Fee (Kids under 12 free)

Come together as various Hatteras Island restaurants compete for the title of HICF 2025 Chowder Cook-Off Winner! Come taste the best chowders available on the island and get ready to vote for your favorite!

Blessing of the Fleet: A traditional ceremony where local fishing and charter boats are blessed, often including a parade of boats.
Live Music: Enjoy live bands throughout the day.
Children's Activities: Fun and engaging activities for kids like Crab Races, a Fishing Contest, and more!
Local Seafood and Food: Indulge in fresh, local seafood and other delicious eats.
Seafood Throwdown: An exciting competition on the main stage where chefs compete to create the best seafood dish.
Fishy 5K Fun Run: Run the Fishy 5k or Dock Dash fun run through historic Hatteras Village the morning of Day at the Docks!
