Families visiting the Outer Banks this summer can kick off their holiday weekend with a high-energy, kid-friendly event designed to get little ones moving. On July 3, 2026, the Town of Nags Head invites children and their families to enjoy Kids Move More at Dowdy Park: a free, interactive morning focused on play, movement, and fun.

Old-Fashioned Games, Timeless Fun

Set in one of Nags Head’s favorite community parks, Kids Move More features colonial-style games that encourage children to run, jump, laugh, and explore movement in a relaxed, welcoming environment. These classic activities give kids the chance to unplug, be active, and enjoy the simple freedom of outdoor play—something that never goes out of style.

Designed for younger participants, the event emphasizes creativity and self-expression while helping children build confidence through physical activity. Parents can cheer from the sidelines or join in as kids experience the joy that comes from moving their bodies and trying something new.

Celebrating Freedom Through Play

As part of the America 250 observance, Kids Move More highlights an often-overlooked part of freedom: the ability for children to grow, play, and thrive in a community that values health and well-being. Through movement and active participation, kids experience independence in action: running freely, making choices, and expressing themselves in positive ways.

The event also reinforces the importance of wellness and active lifestyles, values that have supported generations of American families and continue to shape vibrant communities here on the Outer Banks.

Plan Your Morning

Kids Move More takes place from 9:00–10:00 AM, making it an easy addition to your vacation itinerary before a beach day or holiday celebrations begin. If you’re staying in Nags Head or nearby, it’s a great way for kids to burn off some energy while connecting with the local community.
