Last updated August 19, 2025.
Many of you with upcoming vacations are keeping an eye on Hurricane Erin. We want to provide the latest information and reassurance as you plan your visit.
Dare County was previously under a Tropical Storm Watch, and the system has now been upgraded to a Tropical Storm Warning. While the storm is expected to remain offshore, it may bring periods of strong winds, coastal flooding, and hazardous surf.
We are closely monitoring the situation and will keep you informed if anything changes that might affect your trip.
No Evacuation for Your Area
Currently, there are no evacuation orders for Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, or Manteo. The current evacuation applies only to Hatteras Island. If Dare County Emergency Management or Currituck County Emergency Management issues new orders affecting your area, we’ll notify you immediately.
What to Expect
Hurricane Erin is expected to remain offshore, but it may cause coastal flooding, hazardous surf, strong rip currents, and overwash over the next several days. While the storm should pass before your arrival, some impacts may linger, such as rough surf or standing water on roads in certain areas.
What Happens if There’s Damage?
Our team will inspect properties after the storm. If your rental home is impacted in any way that would affect your stay, we’ll contact you as quickly as possible with alternative options.
Debris & Clean-Up
After the storm, you may see debris roadside and/or around homes as clean-up begins. While this is a normal part of recovery, please know our community and vendors work hard to restore the area as quickly as possible.
Pools
If the home you rented has a pool, it’s common for sand, leaves, and storm debris to collect in the pool. Vendors will begin servicing them as soon as it is safe, but please know your pool may not be fully cleaned and ready for use when you arrive.
Utilities
Storms can occasionally cause temporary power, internet, or cable interruptions. If this happens, local providers will work to restore service as quickly as possible.
Travel Insurance
We’ve received several questions about adding insurance. Unfortunately, Red Sky Travel Insurance can no longer be added to existing reservations. Insurance must be added before your final payment, and since Hurricane Erin is a known, pre-existing threat, it would not be covered under any newly purchased policies. If you purchased insurance, your coverage details will be included in your Red Sky plan documents.
We’re Here for You
We’ll continue to monitor updates from Dare County Emergency Management and Currituck County Emergency Management and will immediately notify you of any changes that may affect your stay. For now, we encourage you to continue planning for your trip with confidence.
