Dare County has announced a staged reentry process, and visitors will be allowed back on the island beginning tomorrow, Sunday, August 24, at 5:00 a.m. At this time, all restrictions on entry will be lifted.
This phased reentry allows residents, property owners, and employees to return first so that homes, businesses, and community services can be prepared for visitors.
Important Arrival Reminder: While visitor entry begins at 5:00 a.m., our cleaning and maintenance crews are still working diligently to prepare homes. To give them additional time—and to help reduce traffic congestion—we kindly ask that you plan your arrival for noon or later. If your reservation check-in day was already scheduled for Sunday, August 24, then please arrive at the standard check-in time of 5:00 pm.
Important Travel Reminders from Dare County:
- N.C. Highway 12 will be safe for travel, but crews are still clearing sand and standing water. Drive slowly and with caution.
- Standing water is saltwater, which can damage vehicles.
- NCDOT crews will be on the roads—please give them plenty of space.
- Heavy rain is expected Sunday, August 24. Some areas may be more prone to flooding due to drainage challenges from Hurricane Erin. See latest forecast.
When traveling on Hatteras Island, please also keep in mind:
- You may encounter debris on roadways or around homes, standing water, or sand in some areas.
- Some businesses and services may be operating with limited hours or staff.
- Use caution when driving, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
If the home you rented has a pool or hot tub, it’s common for sand, leaves, and storm debris to collect in them. Vendors will begin servicing them as soon as they are able to, but please know your pool or hot tub may not be fully cleaned and ready for use when you arrive.
Our team is on the ground preparing homes for your arrival. If you are scheduled to check in tomorrow or later, your vacation should proceed as planned unless we notify you otherwise.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the island soon. If you have questions, please reach out to our Reservations Team at 252-261-5500 or Rentals@SeasideOBX.com.
Safe travels,
The Seaside Vacations Team
