3rd Annual Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival
by Jessie S.
If you’re heading to the Outer Banks in September, you should definitely check out the 3rd Annual Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival. Enjoy fresh, local seafood, delicious wines, live entertainment, informational seminars, a silent auction and a gorgeous view of the Roanoke Sound all in one event! Hosted by the Roanoke Island Historical Association, this awesome festival takes place rain or shine at the Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island. The Roanoke Island Historical Association is a 501 3(c) non-profit organization. Their mission is to commemorate the history of the first English colonies in North America on Roanoke Island, North Carolina. This is accomplished through the well-known outdoor drama, The Lost Colony, and through various programs and events such as The Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival.
The Grand Tasting is held in the Sound Stage Theatre (an indoor, air-conditioned entertainment room with views of the sound!) There will be dozens of different wine selections available to taste from all over the world including samples from North Carolina vineyards. Local Outer Banks craft breweries will also be featured and serving up their favorites. To pair with your beverage, you’ll also be able to sample different dishes from local Outer Banks restaurants. (2019 participant list includes Argyles, Banight's Lone Cedar Cafe, BlueWater Grill & Raw Bar, Coastal Provisions Oyster Bar & Wine Bar Cafe, Dawn's Kitchen Catering, Johanna's Cafe Lachine, Ortega'z Southwestern Grill & Win Bar, Pigman's Bar-B-Que, Ten O Six Beach Road Bistro, Weeping Radish Farm Brewery, and Front Porch Cafe).
When you purchase a general admission ticket to this event, you get access to the Grand Tasting event and Craft Beer Garden. There will also be live entertainment! All visitors receive complimentary water and a gift bag upon arrival that includes a Festival Guide and a complimentary wine glass. Ticket holders will also be able to purchase tickets to various seminars. If you purchase a VIP ticket to the festival, you get all the perks of the GA ticket but you also get to arrive one hour earlier and visit the VIP tasting lounge!
Attending as a Designated Driver? It is greatly appreciated! You will also get a registration packet but it won’t contain a wine glass. A different color wristband will be used to mark your driver status and you’ll be able to sample food but no alcohol.
While in attendance, you may choose to attend a seminar led by wine-industry professionals to learn about a range of topics including discovering the differences in various wines and types of beer. A silent auction will also be held on site where you can bid on jewelry, wine, gift certificates, fine art, and other accessories. All proceeds benefit the Roanoke Island Historical Association. This is one event you don’t want to miss!
