Hurricane Mo's has everything you'd look for in a laid-back, beach themed restaurant on the Outer Banks.

I was initially hesitant to write an OBX Eats review forHurricane Mo's given the restaurants immense popularity year-round with locals and visitors; however this great local joint deserves every positive thing Isay. It's fairly difficult to secure a table for lunch or dinner without waiting at least a few minutes (especially during the summer), but it's certainly worth the delay.

Located between beach road and the bypass around milepost 5 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, there are more than a few reasons why this place is considered afavorite among Outer Banks locals (and Seaside employees).

Previously headquartered in Manteo, North Carolina, the owner and chef Mo, (go figure) opened this location in 2006 and sold her Roanoke Island location. She went all in on the new, Beachside Bar and Grill and so far, I'd say that was a wise business decision given the higher trafficked location in Kitty Hawk.

I stopped by Hurricane Mo's for a quick bite to eat last week with a few fellow co-workers and this most certainly any of our first times dining at Mo's, in fact, several people in our office stop by here once a week for lunch. Apart from being in close proximity to our Kitty Hawk office, there are plenty of reasons why we frequent the restaurant - delicious food, close to the beach, affordable menu items and daily lunch specials are a few reasons why.

I always order one of Mo's wraps or sandwiches that come with enough meat to satisfy the hungriest of carnivores along with a hefty portion of thick cut fries lightly seasoned with salt. I also recommend trying one of their scrumptious fresh seafood dishes or you can feast on one of Mo's daily lunch and dinner specials.

Many locals like myself also love eating at Hurricane Mo's because of their daily happy hour from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Featuring $.10 shrimp, $.25 cent wings, and $1 tacos along with plenty of different drink specials to quench your thirst after a long, stressful day at the beach. I don't know of a better daily happy hour special on the beach!

Visitors of the area come for the relaxed atmosphere and really enjoy dining at a local restaurant that is beach themed with tasteful decorations that are anything but over-the-top.Mo's is a place where you can get a great burger and wrap, filling steak or pasta dish, or fill up on fresh, local seafood at an affordable price - not the typical $30 dollar plates that most OBX restaurants from Corolla to Nags Head offer.

Also, just because their menu items aren't severely marked up, doesn't mean Mo's is lacking in any areas that makeup a successful restaurant. Their host and wait staff is friendly, helpful and courteous, food is fresh and high quality, and cleanliness has never been a concern.

I've been to Hurricane Mo's way too many times over the past month, and you can bank on me returning again before too long. If you're looking for a good time at an affordable price, be sure to stop by this fantastic local restaurant situated right across the street from The Black Pelican.

Until next time, remember to eat local!
