Explore our available winter rentals and book your vacation today!

Get Some Sun

Around the Outer Banks, it seems like it’s already dark by 5:00PM once December hits. So be sure to take advantage of your time outside while you’re here and get to the beach as much as you can during the day. Vitamin D is essential for promoting heart health, cognitive function, and autoimmune risk. So be sure to get your toes in the sand during your stay. Try looking for sea glass along the shoreline or make your way on over to Jockey’s Ridge State Park for a day of kite-flying and hiking!

Keep Moving!

And speaking of Jockey’s Ridge, it’s also super important to keep your body moving during the winter months to help fight off those cold and flu germs. Take daily walks in the sand or enjoy the beautiful trails near the Wright Brothers Memorial. There are plenty of ways to get out and about on the Outer Banks and since it’s the “off-season,” you can expect fewer crowds and less traffic! Consider taking a yoga class or using one of our Club Seaside offers to hit the gym!

Rest Up

The fun of an Outer Banks vacation during the winter months is that you can take full advantage of sleeping in as much as you want! Check out our available rentals where you’ll be able to find the house with the perfect arrangement of beds and cozy furniture for all the naps that you can dream of during your stay. The National Sleep Foundation recommends anywhere from 7-9 hours of sleep for most adults, meaning that you want to ensure you get that rest during the winter months to keep those colds (and winter blues) away.

Stay Hydrated

It is so important to stay hydrated during the winter months. Staying hydrated is important for keeping your immune system strong and helping your body maintain a stable core temperature. While you’re here on the Outer Banks, many of our parks have water fountains for easy water bottle refills. And while you’re out, why not stop by Abbi’s Teas, located in Jockey’s Ridge Crossing, or The Spice & Tea Exchange of Duck for a delicious loose leaf or bagged tea to add to your drink repertoire?

Dress for the Chill with Layers

50°F is definitely better than 30°F when it comes to a day at the beach, but you’ll want to come prepared. Dress in layers to ensure that you’re warm enough when the wind picks up, but cool enough to bask in the bright midday sun. Light-colored cotton or linen clothing is always a safe bet for the beach. Layer it up with a jean jacket and some cozy shoes and you’ll be set! Don’t forget to bring a hat or beanie with you, just in case the winds pick up.

Treat Yourself

Did you know that according to the American Psychological Association (APA), people tend to report increased stress levels during the holiday season? Coming to the Outer Banks should be a calm and relaxing experience to help you rejuvenate in anticipation of the coming spring months. Book a visit to one of the peaceful Spas and Wellness Centers up and down the banks to give yourself an extra immune boost during the winter!
