So your Outer Banks vacation plans have landed you at a rental in Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head.  Now you're thinking about taking your new 4 wheel drive out onto the beach.  What do you need to know?

Vehicles with the proper driving permit from either Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head are allowed on the beaches from October 1 through April 30 each year.

The seasonal permits are available at the second floor Cashier's Window in Kill Devil Hills Town Hall, 102 Town Hall Drive (8:00 - 5:00, M-F). Seasonal permits are $25 and KDH temporary permits are $10 (good for 14 days). The Towns of Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head have a reciprocal program that allows a KDH beach driving permit holder to drive on Nags Head beaches and vice versa.
