Top 5 Things to Do with your Dog at the Beach!
Go for a Walk!
The beach is a great place to get some exercise for both you and your four-legged pal! While you strengthen your foot and ankle muscles, not only will your dog be getting his steps in (because, let's be real, dogs need to workout too!), but they'll also get the chance to see and smell so many new things! Hanging out at home all day can be really boring, so let your dogs have a vacation too! They'll enjoy the opportunity to chase seagulls and splash around in the waves.
Play Fetch!
There's nothing more fun than watching your dog chase after a stick, a ball, or a frisbee with the beautiful backdrop of the Outer Banks behind them! They're sure to have a blast diving into the sand or splashing in the surf to retrieve that special toy. Just be sure to bring extras, in case the ocean decides it wants your puppy's favorite plaything.
Go Boating!
Bringing your favorite canine companion out on the water with you is a fun and rewarding experience! If you're more of a kayaker, bring a dog life jacket and get out on the water together to explore! Your pup is going to love the brilliant breezes coming off the water as well as all the new sights and smells around you. The gentle rocking of the boat will be a blast, as well, possibly even luring them to sleep as they take in the sunshine and spending even more quality time together with you.
Go Swimming!
Now this is a fun one. Just about everyone has heard of "doggy paddling" but there's nothing quite like actually seeing your dog find his fins in the water. Bring your dog life jacket with you to the beach and have patience. The ocean can be scary! But once they figure out what they're doing, they'll be like a fish to water. Just keep an eye on them so that they don't get too tired out. It can be easy for dogs to get too excited and wear themselves out, which means they need to be there to bring them back to shore.
Have a Picnic in the Sand!
One of the best things about the beach is the chance to relax, listen to the sounds of the ocean, and have a picnic under an umbrella! And few things scream "summer" quite like a slice of watermelon on the beach. Grab a travel food and water bowl or a paper plate and get your dog set up with his favorite meal on a towel to enjoy! Just make sure they don't drink the ocean water - salt water is definitely not good for dogs, or people, to ingest.
