Fall is arguably one of the best seasons of the year—who doesn’t love pumpkin patches, warm sweaters, and apple cider? On the Outer Banks, Fall is basically our “second summer” where visitors get to enjoy everything from great weather and quiet beaches to savings on lodging and relaxed dog leash laws. However, we think that the numerous fun events that occur during the fall months might be the best reason of all to visit.

Dowdy Park Farmer’s Market


Location: 3005 South Croatan Highway (at Bonnett Street), Nags Head, NC 27959

About: The Dowdy Park Farmer’s Market is a fun community event that runs through the middle of October featuring handmade goods from local crafters, farmers, bakers, and artists. Visitors will find items like jewelry, crafts, baked goods, fresh meat and seafood, local produce, soaps, skincare products, photography, clothing, home décor, pottery, handbags, and more. Click here for more information.

OBX Jeep Jam

Location: Nags Head Soundside Event Site (6800 S. Croatan Hwy. Nags Head, NC 27959)

About: The OBX Jeep Jam is an exciting event for the whole community of Jeep fans out there. Enjoy live music, Jeep show, parts swap, raffles, local food/drinks/merchandise vendors, activities for kids, and more. Ticket costs vary but General Admission is $10.00 per person. Annual Lost Colony Wine & Culinary Festival

Location: Waterside Theatre on Roanoke Island

About: Presented by the Lost Colony Roanoke Island Historical Association, the Wine & Culinary Festival is an annual event filled with delicious wine, local seafood, educational seminars, live entertainment, and a silent auction all with a waterfront view. The Grand Tasting features wine from local NC vineyards as well as wines from all over the world. Ticket prices vary. Click here for more information.

Grandy Greenhouse & Farm Market Pumpkin Patch

Location: 6264 Caratoke Hwy. Grandy, NC 27939

About: Come visit the farmer’s market—a great fall tradition! Along with the great greenhouse and market shop full of fresh produce/preserves, etc., there are plenty of festive events to try! Take a hayride to the pumpkin patch to select your favorite pumpkins for your Autumn décor. (Wagon rides leave every 30 minutes on the weekend). You can also enjoy a fun cider-making workshop to learn how apple cider is made and even sample freshly squeezed cider! Click here for more information.

Halloween International Film Festival


Location: RC Theatres Kill Devil Hills Movies 10 (1803 N. Croatan Hwy. Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948)

About: The Halloween International Film Festival aims to celebrate Halloween and promote the spirit of creativity for talented filmmakers and independent artists by providing an avenue to gain exposure. Fall Outer Banks Restaurant Week

Location: Throughout the Outer Banks

About: The Fall Outer Banks Restaurant Week is the perfect opportunity to try out some of the best local OBX restaurants for lunch and/or on a budget! Enjoy 3 course meals at participating locations for a fixed price of either $20 or $35. No tickets or coupons or needed—simply go to a participating restaurant and choose an item off their Restaurant Week menu and enjoy! Click here for more information.

Island Farm Pumpkin Patch

Location: 1140 N. Hwy 64, Manteo, NC 27954

About: Head down to the Island Farm in Manteo (a living museum/experience of an island farm from the mid 1800s) and visit their seasonal pumpkin patch! Every Saturday in October, you’ll love getting in the fall spirit as you wander the grounds for the best pumpkin. Other seasonal activities will be added to the normal farm experience including “oxen rides,” hot cider, and candle-making crafts. Admission to the museum site is $8.00. Annual Oink N’ Oyster Roast

Location: Longboard’s Island Grill (3833 N. Croatan Hwy. Kitty Hawk, NC 27949)

About: The Annual Oink N’ Oyster Roast is a great way to support the local community while enjoying great food! Come out to eat fresh oysters, homemade BBQ, and all the fixings (and if you can’t make it, pick up a BBQ Lunch to go!) Enjoy live music from the First Flight High School Band and a chance to win prizes. Pork butts and aprons are also available. Tickets are $30 if pre-ordered ($35 at the door) with special pricing available for younger children. Proceeds support local Outer Banks charities. Click here for more information.



Location: Coastal Provisions (1 Ocean Blvd. Southern Shores, NC 27949)

About: If you love oysters on the half shell, you don't want to miss Oystoberfest 2019! This fun event is great for all ages and proceeds support NC Coastal Federation's oyster restoration efforts. Enjoy all-you-can-eat oysters from over half a dozen NC oyster farmers as well as oyster dishes prepared by 8 different local restaurants as they compete for the title of "Best Oyster Dish!" Several NC breweries will also be on-site for all the beer you can enjoy! Tickets are $55 which includes all you can eat and drink along with a commemorative glass.  Duck Jazz Festival

Location: Duck Town Park (Duck Town Park Boardwalk, Duck, NC 27949)

About: The annual Duck Jazz Festival is a true celebration of jazz music at a local, regional and national level! Held at the beautiful Duck Town Park bordering the Currituck Sound, visitors will enjoy a host of beloved jazz musicians performing some of their best tracks. This affordable friendly-family event lets you bring in your own chairs, snacks, coolers, blankets, etc., and is free to the public! Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival

Location: Location varies by event/program.

About: This annual fundraising event is sponsored by the Coastal Wildlife Refuge Society and encompasses over 90 different birding, paddling, photography, art & natural history programs over 6 different national wildlife refuges across North Carolina. From sunrise kayak tours and hikes through Nags Head Woods to Lighthouse birding and owl prowls, there is at least one guided event perfect for all the nature lovers out there, no matter your age! Click here for more information.

Outer Banks Seafood Festival

Location: Soundside Event Site (6800 S. Croatan Hwy. Nags Head, NC 27959 – MP 16.5 on the bypass).

About: The annual Outer Banks Seafood Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the year! This event celebrates both the history and heritage of the local seafood industry. The soundfront location is the perfect backdrop to this fun festival where visitors can spend the day trying fresh, locally sourced seafood from dozens of Outer Banks restaurants and sample beverages from local breweries and vineyards. Local merchandise/craft vendors will also be on site. Guests even get to vote on their favorite dish! Tickets are $5.00 for admission and all food and drink items bought during the event must be purchased with SeaBucks ($1.00 dollar = $1 SeaBuck). Click here for more information.


Annual Mustang Rock & Roast Music Festival

Location: Mike Dianna's Grill Room in Timbuck II Shopping Village Corolla (777 Sunset Blvd. Corolla, NC 27927)

About: This awesome music festival promises a full weekend of delicious North Carolina oysters and barbecue combined with live music from 14 different bands. Saturday's event is headlined by The Motet while Sunday's is headlined by the band Turkuaz. Saturday will also welcome local restaurants and chefs as they participate in a pork barbecue cook-off where guests can sample different local barbecue dishes between 2:00 - 5:00 PM. Guests to the Sunday show will enjoy an authentic NC oyster roast. Proceeds from the Mustang Music Festival benefit the Corolla Wild Horse Fund and the Mustang Outreach Program. Annual OBX Brewtag

Location: Soundside Event Site (6800 S. Croatan Hwy. Nags Head, NC 27959 – MP 16.5 on the bypass).

About: The annual Brewtag celebration is modeled after the Red Bull Flugtag (“flying day in German!). Contestants test the boundaries of aerodynamics by launching and flying empty keg barrels—competing to see who can go the furthest. Plus you can enjoy drinks from the Beer Garden! There are even plenty of events for kids ranging from face painting and crafts to a portable rock wall. Costume contest also awards prizes for best kids, adult, and dog costumes. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Outer Banks Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund (benefiting families affected by Hurricane Dorian) and the Rogallo Foundation. Click here for more information.


Annual Dare to Scare 5k & Sweet Treat Fun Run

Location: Dare County Center (950 Marshall C. Collins Dr. Manteo, NC 27954)

About: The Annual Dare to Scare 5k & Sweet Treat Fun Run is a great opportunity to celebrate the holiday while being healthy. The Race begins in the Coastal Studies Institute parking lot (participants will be shuttled to this location from Dare County Center) and ends at the Dare County Center in Manteo. The route is 3.1 miles and includes residential roads and multi-surface trails. There will also be games, music, and photo opportunities at the start. Costumes are encouraged! Awards will be given to the top three males & females in the 5k along with awards to the best kids and adult costumes for the most creative, most scary, and group costumes. Click here for more information.

Annual Outer Banks Halloween Parade of Costumes

Location: Aviation Park (Veteran’s Dr. Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948)

About: This fun, family-friendly event begins with a trick or treat party followed by the costume parade! Awards will be given for best costume in multiple categories for all age ranges.
