When you book a home with Seaside Vacations, our goal is to ensure that you have the best Outer Banks Vacation possible! We believe that the Outer Banks has something for everyone and it’s our job to help you find an activity that will create those memories that will last a lifetime – memories that will have you coming back to the Outer Banks year after year! If you’re looking for a fun activity that is perfect for the whole family or maybe a place to go when the weather isn’t good for laying out on the beach, we suggest you check out Turf’s Up OBX!
Recently purchased in March 2019 by new owners, Anthony Dickinson and Paul Farr, Turf’s Up is a premier Outer Banks sports club that provides visitors the opportunity to enjoy sports (like golf, soccer, baseball, softball, hockey) with an ultra-high-quality gaming simulator. That’s right – Turf’s Up is an indoor sports arena catering to all ages and skill levels!
What Can I Play at Turf’s Up?
When new customers decide to walk into Turf’s Up, they can expect a fun, inviting atmosphere. Turf’s Up caters to all ages and skill levels meaning this inviting establishment is the perfect place to play games with friends and family and get active any time of the year no matter the weather... and there are plenty of games to choose from.
Perhaps the most impressive feature is that Turf’s Up offers 91 different golf courses to play! Whether you’re just planning to practice your putting skills or looking for a golfing adventure on a rainy day, even the most experienced golfer will not get bored thanks to such a large selection of virtual courses to choose from.
If golf isn't your game, visitors to Turf’s Up can also play 13 other popular sports games on the simulators including classics like soccer, baseball, softball, and hockey. If you’re in the mood to save the world from an apocalypse, you could try out zombie dodgeball. The simulators even offer carnival games that vary in level of difficulty!
For a truly unique and one of a kind experience, we suggest trying out the newest addition to the Turf’s Up which was added when the new owners purchased the company – Virtual Reality. This system is unlike any other and the experience is almost impossible to describe. It’s a seriously fun time and we think everyone should give it a try!
Are There Refreshments?
Turf’s up is “bring-your-own-food friendly" meaning they welcome outside food into the building. The owners of Turf’s Up encourage everyone to come prepared to have a good time and food can definitely enhance the experience of playing games with your friends! If you prefer not to bring something in, Turf’s Up has a great Snack Bar that serves a variety of items like chips, Cliff bars, cookies, popcorn and crackers. They also sell Coca-Cola products, various energy drinks, and alcoholic beverages at the bar. These items must be purchased separately and are not included in the cost of booking a simulator bay.
Is Turf’s Up Able to Host Celebrations?
Absolutely! While Turf’s Up is the perfect place to visit for a casual day of fun, it is also an ideal place to host events or gatherings. Turf's Up can handle anything from parties and family reunions to birthdays, work gatherings or other special occasions. For anyone who wants to have their next celebration at Turf’s Up, simply ask about their party package.
Any Upcoming Events?
On May 17th – May 18th, Turf’s Up is holding a grand reopening event! This event will feature live music, game demonstrations, drink specials at the bar, gift card giveaways and much more! This event is going to be big and you definitely don’t want to miss out!
More events will be announced as the 2019 Event Calendar unfolds.
Who are the Owners?
Anthony "Dicky" Dickinson, co-owner, is an insurance agent in Currituck County and owns two other Dare County businesses. Originally from Chesapeake, Virginia, Dickinson spent years commuting to the Outer Banks to enjoy the secluded beaches, catch a few good waves, and spend time with friends. About 20 years ago, he finally moved to North Carolina and now calls Currituck County home.
Co-owner Paul Farr is originally from Currituck County and relocated to Kill Devil Hills in 2007 to operate his two Dare County businesses. Although the Outer Banks will always be close and dear to him, Farr recently made the move to Denver, Colorado to operate an insurance company there. His local businesses, including Turf's Up, his employees and friends all remain a large part of his life.
Both Dickinson and Farr also work as insurance agents in the area and are co-owners of local dry cleaning and laundry company, Outer Banks Cleaners. As individuals who enjoy socializing, being active, and having a good time with friends and family, Dickinson and Farr knew they had to purchase the company when the prior owners decided to sell. Says Dickinson and Farr of their decision,
“Turf’s Up provides a unique opportunity to entertain a broad range of people. Turf’s Up can hos ta party for a 7-year old and immediately after host a bachelor party. We can host a family reunion or business meeting all in the same day. Having fun and enjoyment in life is important to us and we wanted to have a business that could provide that type of atmosphere to locals and visitors alike.”
The entire team at Turf’s Up is all about being active, playing sports, and enjoying games in their spare time. From surfing and snowboarding to biking and lifting, they love pretty much anything that involves moving. They also love video games of course – including all of the fun games at Turf’s Up!
